How do I pray?

In the first week of our series "Lord Teach Us To Pray", pastor chip dives into the prayer Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians.

Dive deeper into this message with these discussion questions! 

General Questions

  • What is prayer to me?
  • What do I think would be the outcome (in my life, in my marriage, in my career, with my children) if I invested the same amount of time in prayer as I do on the internet or my mobile phone?
  • What is my major distraction from investing time in prayer...especially when the circumstances in my life are in order? Why is that?
  • If in a relationship... am I investing time in prayer with my significant other?
  • Do I agree that the most urgent need of the American church is learning to pray?

Take Home 1: We must grow past a circumstantial Christianity

  • Do you find that your prayers are centered around your circumstances?
  • When you go through a difficult time, how can you shift your focus from asking God to fix it, to asking God how this can better conform you to the image of Christ?

Take Home 2: What if our prayer lives focused more on others than us? (2 The. 1:11)

  • When looking at your prayer life, who do you spend the majority of your time praying for?
  • How often do you pray for others you may dislike?

Take Home 3: Imagine if we prayed for others that the name of the Lord would be glorified in them? (2 The. 1:12)

  • Do I pray that I would live out God’s call on my life?
  • Do I pray that others would live out God’s call in their lives?
