When things seem impossible

In week two of Now What, guest speaker Pastor Craig Altman dives deep into the story of Joseph.

Dive deeper into the message with these discussion questions!

General:

  • Pastor Craig connected through his personal stories—what’s your faith journey? How are you sharing it, and with whom?
  • Are you living by God’s plan or your own? What tends to cause you to shift between the two?
  • When you reflect on the direction of your life, where do you see evidence of God’s hand—and where do you see your own efforts taking the lead?
  • How is God shaping your character through your current season—not just preparing you for what’s next, but forming you now?
  • What’s one area of your life where you need to surrender your plan and trust God’s timing and purpose?

Take Home 1: Joseph Learned Humility (Gen. 41:15-16)

  • When Joseph said, “It is beyond my power to do this,” what does that reveal about his heart and his growth?
  • How do you typically respond when someone praises your gifts or abilities?
  • What would it look like to regularly redirect glory back to God in your daily life?
  • In what areas of your life are you most tempted to take credit rather than give it to God?

Take Home 2: Joseph Learned God Is a Waymaker (Gen. 41:38-40)

  • What stands out to you in Pharaoh’s recognition of Joseph being “filled with the spirit of God”?
  • Has there ever been a time in your life where it felt like there was no way forward—but God made a way?
  • What does it mean to trust God as a “waymaker” even when you don’t see how He’s working?
  • How can you look for and celebrate God’s provision and guidance in your current season?

Take Home 3: Joseph Learned to Forgive (Gen. 41:51-52)

  • Joseph names his sons in a way that reflects both his pain and his healing. What does that teach us about the role of memory and grace?
  • Is there anyone you still need to forgive? What makes forgiveness difficult for you?
  • How does holding onto bitterness or past wounds affect your present faith?
  • What step can you take this week to pursue reconciliation, healing, or emotional release from a past hurt?

Take Home 4: Joseph Learned God Is Almighty and Sovereign (Gen. 45:4-8)

  • Joseph tells his brothers, “It was God who sent me here…” How does that reshape how you view painful or confusing seasons in your life?
  • How does Joseph’s story help you better understand Romans 8:28?
  • Do you believe God is actively working for good in your life—even when you can’t see it? Why or why not?
  • How can a deeper trust in God’s sovereignty bring peace to your current “Now What?” moment?
