Student Takeover 2026: Go and Do Likewise

Three Freshman from the Forge Student Ministry deliver a sermon on the Good Samaritan.

The story of the Good Samaritan is often reduced to a sentimental lesson about “being nice.” But what if Jesus intended something far more confrontational?Spoken into a culture fractured by religious division, tribalism, and social boundaries, the parable of the Good Samaritan stands as a direct challenge to the religious spirit that keeps hurting people at arm’s length. Why did the priest and Levite walk by?Why was the Samaritan—the outsider, the enemy—the hero? And what if this story is not merely about helping others… but about recognizing ourselves? The beaten man was stripped, broken, and left for dead.So was Jesus. And like the wounded traveler, we have been healed, clothed in righteousness, and brought back to life through Christ. So the question remains:Who are we in the story? The Samaritan who enters into the suffering of others?Or the religious leaders who avoid proximity to pain?In this sermon, we explore Jesus’ radical call to sacrificial love, service, and the kind of compassion that crosses tribal lines.
